COVID 19-Guidelines and Procedures

Face coverings:

  • Students will be expected to wear masks at all times when in the school building.
  • Students will be expected to wear the mask correctly covering both their mouth and nose.
  • Students will be provided with one visor and five re-useable masks on the first day back.
  • Students in certain exceptional circumstances will be permitted to wear a visor.
  • Students who refuse to wear a mask will be sent home due to a breach of code of behaviour in-line with DES Guidelines.
  • Staff will be required to wear a face covering in accordance with DES Guidelines.

Sanitisation:

  • There are a huge number of hand sanitisation points around the school. Please report any sanitiser unit that is not functioning correctly to Mr. Doogue.
  • They are located in every classroom, outside toilets, at entrance/exit points, the sports hall, staffroom, teacher offices and work-stations.
  • They will be regularly filled by our auxiliary staff.
  • Teachers and students will be encouraged to carry their own personal hand sanitiser.
  • Regular and correct hand sanitisation and sneeze/cough etiquette is required and extremely important.
  • Staff should sanitise between each class.
  • Staff should clean their teacher desk at the end of each class using spray and disposable paper roll or wipes.

School Movement:

  • A ‘Keep Right’ system has been put in place along all corridors of the school whereby everyone must keep right of the dividing line.
  • All students and staff should walk in single file and not two/three abreast in the corridors.
  • Students that leave their base class to go to optional and practical classes should be encouraged to leave and enter classrooms in a swift and orderly manner promptly after the bell to avoid congestion at classroom doorways.
  • There will be a one-way-system in operation around the GPA

School Entrance:

  • The same two entrances to the school building that are currently in place for students will remain in place for the coming year.
  • Staff will enter the main entrance as usual also.
  • The students are not permitted to use the main entrance and must use the two student entry points and the fire exit near the student’s toilets off the GPA as exit points when leaving the building keeping right at all times.
  • All visitation will be minimised and only occur when completely necessary.
  • All visitors will fill out a contact tracing form in the school reception prior to entry.
  • Students who are late will check in with assigned teacher on duty that morning to get signed in on VS Ware.

Behaviour:

  • Any student whose behaviour in relation to COVID 19 guidelines is deemed inappropriate will face a sanction. This has been added to the school code of behaviour and will be approved at the next board of management meeting.

Pods:

  • Student’s class groups will be treated as their main pod e.g. 1 Elm.
  • Student’s year group will be treated as a larger pod e.g First Year.
  • Therefore, students should not be closely interacting with students outside of their year group and minimise contacts outside of their class group.
  • Whereby a student travels to an option subject they should sit with members of their base class.

The Classrooms:

  • The layout of many classrooms has changed in order to best preserve social distancing.
  • The orientation of many of the rooms has changed in order to allow students to spread out.
  • Students should be assigned seats for the duration of the year where possible and teachers will be asked to keep a seating plan in place for each of their class groups.
  • Where possible all classes should be taught with doors open for ventilation and to reduce infection risk via door handles. Classes should also be taught with windows open to allow for ventilation (weather permitting).
  • Students should leave the classroom in an orderly and organised manner with the students closest the door leaving first and so on to avoid large congregations in doorways.

Teaching and Learning:

  • Teachers should do their best to remain two metres from the students except when the cleaning of desks takes place at the end of class.
  • All work to be handed up will have to be submitted through Microsoft Teams.
  • It is strongly advised not to collect any copies/worksheets etc. from the students.
  • If handouts are absolutely necessary and unavoidable it is suggested that they be left on the desk for each student to take one rather than handing one to each student.
  • Materials such as stationery should not be shared in class between anyone.

Staff Room:

  • There will be a one-way-keep right system in operation in the staffroom.
  • The capacity of the staffroom has been reduced to allow for greater distancing.
  • The layout of the seats has changed to reduce the number of social contacts, please do not change the layout of the room.
  • Staff are asked to bring their own Cutlery/Cups/Plates in order to avoid possible contamination.
  • No Cutlery/Cups/Plates should be shared in any circumstance.
  • Microwave doors/Fridge Door and commonly touched surfaces such as the table where you eat at should be wiped with spray and disposable tissue after use.

Administration Support/Front Office:

  • Coláiste Eoin, Hacketstown is committed to taking all reasonable preventative measures required to safeguard the health and safety of our staff, students and visitors at our premises during this Covid-19 pandemic.
  • We are now adjusting how we normally operate our school in order to comply with Covid-19 physical distancing and hygiene requirements.
  • These precautions are in place for all our teachers and students. However, our school administrator because of the nature of her job is in a more vulnerable position as her usual responsibilities include meeting and greeting parents, students and staff.
  • Due to Covid 19 her role is now restricted and all interactions with staff will be on-line and through a pick- up/collection point in each zone.
  • All inquiries from staff to be made on-line and/or telephone
  • Stationery will be allocated to each member of staff in August upon return to school.
  • All student contact details/Parents addresses are on VS ware or can be directed to Year Heads
  • There will be no access to the Front office for staff, students or parents as physical distancing is not possible in such a small space.
