Coláiste Eoin offers Transition Year as an optional one year programme full of unique learning experiences and opportunities that nurtures each student academically, physically, morally, socially and emotionally.
The Transition Year Programme provides our students with the tools and supports to acquire new skills and discover individual talents, aptitudes and abilities. Students mature, grow into an independent and autonomous learner, develop skills and competencies to cope successfully in their own personal and social development.
Students enjoy educational experiences through a broad range of learning experience both inside and outside the classroom.
Transition Year equips and motivates students to take on responsibilities both in school and in their future lives.
The design and implementation of the Transition Year Programme at Coláiste Eoin is focused on developing the four key student dimensions ahead of Senior Cycle. These dimensions are personal growth, being a learner, civic and community engagement and career readiness. Transition Year in Coláiste Eoin is a broad, vibrant and creative programme.

Transition Year students are actively involved in fundraising activities such as Breast Cancer Awareness, Christmas Jumper Day for the local St. Vincent de Paul, Jersey Day for Children with Cancer.
Transition Year students participate in a number of trips over the year which are student focus such as Bog Jumping or Outdoor Pursuits Adventure Centre, a visit to Croke Park, Glasnevin Cemetery or Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin Zoo, Microsoft Dream Space, Cycle along the Waterford Greenway, Hike in Glendalough. The student voice plays a major role in where the students would like to go on their TY Tour abroad.
One of the main aims of the Transition Year Programmes is to prepare students for adult and working life. All Transition Year students engage in three work placements throughout the year. This gives the students the opportunity to investigate possible career choices and experience the world of work. Some students apply for places on a variety of additional TY structured programmes such as the Defence Forces, Air Corps, An Garda Síochána and Visual Arts.
Some students challenge themselves by setting personal goals and undertake the GAISCE Bronze Award. Other students have entered the Angus Beef Competition and Junk Kouture Fashion Competition and Short Story Writing Competition
Assessment is an integral part of the teaching and learning process in Transition Year. There are no state examinations in Transition Year. Students are marked based on a credit system. These credits are awarded for completion of their work in each subject, work experience, personal E-portfolio and end of year interview.
