Core Values and School Ethos

As a multi-denominational school, we are committed to providing religious education for all our students.

Our goal is to offer an education that fosters:

  • A recognition of personal worth and dignity.
  • A commitment to truth, self-discipline, and responsibility.
  • An appreciation for striving to do one's best.
  • A willingness to collaborate with others.
  • Respect and tolerance for different perspectives.

We aim to achieve this through a holistic approach that integrates academic, practical, personal, social, physical, and religious education. To fulfils this mission, we work collaboratively with school management, staff, students, parents, the local community and organisations that can support our efforts

Just as individuals have values, so do schools. A school's ethos reflects what it prioritises and the kind of environment it seeks to create for its students and community. The core values of our school shape its ethos. The term “ethos,” originating from the Greek word for "custom" or "character," and today refers to how we interact with one another within our school.

Coláiste Eoin is an ETB school, proudly part of the Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board.

All ETB schools are:

  • State – ETB schools are state schools.
  • Co-educational - Includes the full diversity of gender identities and gender expression in the school community and is concerned to underpin respectful relationships across this diversity.
  • Multi-denominational - Welcoming and celebrating the full range of religions and beliefs in our school community. It is concerned with developing relationships which are respectful and appreciative of such differences, and interactions that embrace, celebrate, and explore such differences.

ETB schools underpinned by 5 core values:

  • Excellence in Education
  • Care
  • Equality
  • Community
  • Respect

Here in Coláiste Eoin our school ethos helps to ensure that all students:

  • reach their potential and that all of them realise their talents.
  • are supported in their learning.
  • feel confident in their abilities and enjoy success.
  • feel like they belong and are treated fairly and equally.
  • are respected.
  • are cared for.
  • feel part of a community.
  • understand the immense potential that they have.
