Grúpa Ceoil – A Celebration of Irish Tradition and Talent

Grúpa Ceoil is our school’s vibrant Traditional Irish Music Ensemble, showcasing a rich blend of both traditional and contemporary Irish music. The group features a diverse range of instruments – from concertinas and fiddles to tin whistles and more – brought to life by talented students from 1st to 6th year.

Founded in 2022, Grúpa Ceoil has quickly grown into one of the school's most cherished musical groups. Under the guidance of Ms. L. Cummins, the ensemble rehearses weekly and has become a source of great pride and enjoyment for all involved.

In just a few short years, the group has built an impressive performance portfolio. Highlights include appearances at the national ETBI event, Culture Night, Grandparents’ Day, Open Nights, Carol Services, School Céilís, and regular visits to local day care centres, nursing homes, and hospitals – bringing the joy of music to audiences far and wide.

Their musical excellence has also earned them national recognition. In both 2024 and 2025, Grúpa Ceoil reached the Leinster finals of the prestigious Siansa Gael Linn competition, performing in the semi-finals in Kildare. They also placed 8th in the Waltons National Music Competition, receiving a “Highly Commended” rating from the judging panel.

Each year, members are rewarded with a special trip to the National Concert Hall – a well-earned celebration of their dedication and hard work, and a highlight of the school calendar.

Grúpa Ceoil is open to all ability levels and welcomes new members annually. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned player, there’s a place for everyone in this dynamic and inclusive ensemble.

Music at Coláiste Eoin

At Coláiste Eoin, Music is a vibrant and inclusive part of school life. We offer both Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate Music, providing students with the opportunity to explore a wide range of musical styles – from pop and rock to jazz and traditional Irish music.

Throughout their studies, students engage in a well-rounded curriculum built on three core pillars: Composition, Aural Skills, and Performance. The programme is carefully designed to cater to all levels of experience and ability, allowing every student to grow in confidence and creativity.

For those interested in further developing their instrumental skills, optional guitar lessons are available. Beyond the classroom, students are encouraged to take part in a variety of musical ensembles and performance opportunities, including our School Choir and Grúpa Ceoil – our traditional Irish music group.

With regular performances, competitions, and workshops, Coláiste Eoin offers every student the chance to express themselves musically and develop their talents in a supportive and inspiring environment.
