LEARNING IN ACTION

Thursday 19th and Friday 20th October were extremely busy active learning days in Coláiste Eoin. Thanks to the organisers, teachers Ms. Mairead Tompkins, Ms. Mary Cummins and Ms. Ger Dalton students had the chance to work with:

The RSA

The road safety authority which was on site with their state of the art fully kitted out interactive shuttle.

Students got to experience interactive simulated cycling on bikes riding motor bikes and driving cars. Road safety awareness was brought to life for students in a real and memorable way.

Talks to junior students from Garda Paul Keane also reinforced the importance of road safety.

HACKETSTOWN FIRE Brigade

was on site too. Here students had the unique opportunity to learn about the work of their local firefighters, specifically at the scene of an accident. It was an eye opener for both students and their teachers to see exactly how firefighters respond to a road accident and the devastating aftermath and consequences of losing attention while driving and the importance of wearing a seatbelt.

These live demonstrations held students' attention and brought road safety awareness to life.

A road safety poster competition followed for 1st and 2nd year students' prizes were awarded to winners, Zara Hutton, Lilly Foley, Laura Darcy, Grace Smith and Maria Ivanova.

The annual fancy dress competition was included in Friday’s events as our T/Y students are on work experience next week.

This was a colourful celebration of imagination, self-expression and creativity.

We had two Indiana Jones’ Jay- Z, a selection of vampires, a plethora of cowboys and cowgirls, dinosaurs, pirates several sports legends, Marty Morrissey, a bishop, a couple of priests and members of the teaching staff all made an appearance.

Ms. Hand and Ms. Hodnett were both amused and impressed by 6th year students Ruben Hunter and Paddy O’Byrne’s fancy dress interpretations of themselves.

All funds raised will be donated to the Irish Heart Foundation.

Well done to students for their participation and interaction during their assigned scheduled class period throughout both days.

Thanks again to the teachers involved in the organisation of these valuable impactful hands-on learning opportunities for everyone.
