There was a wonderful atmosphere of celebration, pride and community spirit in Coláiste Eoin on Friday 15th May as students and staff gathered for the School Awards Ceremony 2026. The event celebrated the many achievements, talents and contributions of students across all aspects of school life and reflected the strong sense of community that exists within the school.
Awards were presented across a wide range of categories including Student of the Year, attendance, sport, music, leadership, wellbeing, inclusion, community involvement and extracurricular activities. Throughout the ceremony, students were recognised not only for academic achievement, but also for the positive contribution they make to everyday life in Coláiste Eoin through kindness, perseverance, teamwork and school spirit.
In his address, Principal Alan Costello spoke about the importance of teamwork and reminded students that “there is no I in team.” He reflected on how success within the school community is built through the combined efforts of students, staff, coaches, families and the wider community. Mr Costello also acknowledged the resilience, dedication and commitment shown by students throughout the school year.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of the Female Sports Person of the Year Award to Lilly Murphy. Lilly has achieved remarkable success as a member of the Ireland Under 18 Women’s Rugby Team, proudly wearing the number 3 jersey for Ireland. She has also been a fantastic ambassador for rugby within Coláiste Eoin, helping to promote and encourage participation in tag rugby alongside Ms Balfe. Her dedication, sporting achievements and leadership were warmly recognised and celebrated by all in attendance.
The Male Sports Person of the Year Award was presented to sixth year student Mark Kinsella in recognition of his outstanding sporting achievements. Mark has represented his school, club and county with distinction in both hurling and football and has also played soccer for the school with great commitment and pride.
Special recognition was also given to students involved in debating, Student Enterprise, the arts, leadership roles, sport and a wide variety of extracurricular and community activities that continue to strengthen the vibrant and inclusive culture of Coláiste Eoin.
The ceremony reflected the school’s ethos of being a “small school with a big heart,” encouraging students to value effort, resilience, teamwork and respect for others alongside academic success.
A sincere thank you was extended to all staff who contributed to the smooth running of the event, with special acknowledgement given to Ms Nessa O’Meara for the tremendous work involved in organising such a positive and memorable occasion.
