TRANSITION YEAR TRIP TO ITALY
The Transition Year class were delighted to head to Italy as part of the TY programme. Leaving Ireland on the 2nd of May, they took in the Leaning Tower of Pisa, then travelled to Florence to visit the Accademia Gallery, Uffizi Gallery and Brunelleschi’s Dome. After a stop in Sienna the batteries were recharged in Rainbow Magicland an amusement park that has hair-raising rollercoasters that defy gravity and shows to cater for all. The group then made their way to Rome and enjoyed a walking guided tour, visiting the Pantheon, Colosseum and Roman Forum. From there they ventured en masse to the Vatican and saw the Sistine Chapel and took in the splendour and solemnity of the area. The visit to Capri was enjoyed by all and students made their way to Anacapri where they purchased souvenirs while others took the chair lift to the top of the island and basked in the splendour of the region. The final day saw the obligatory venture to Pompeii and flight home. The students had an absolute ball and it is clear that each and every one of them learned so much, both from a cultural perspective but also the holistic perspective. The tour as always was a highlight for all involved and was a fitting final jaunt to an incredible year.
