MAKE A WISH
A guest speaker from Make a Wish visited Colaiste Eoin to discuss the work of the charity. Trisha Quinn shared the stories and the potential of the charity with students from TY and they were really impressed by the work achieved to date. Make-A-Wish Ireland has one simple aim – to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Since 1992, Make-A-Wish has granted wishes for more than 2,300 children across Ireland, including 221 wishes granted in 2017 alone. A wish granted is true magic for the child, providing respite from their normal routines of hospitals, doctors and treatment. Make-A-Wish does not receive any government funding, and relies overwhelmingly on the kindness of the Irish public to continue granting wishes.
The students were so impressed in fact; that they have already embarked upon a fundraising venture, which saw them take to the streets of the local community, and their efforts will continue. The speaker and the charity taught the students the importance of empathy and they gained an understanding into the complexities of childhood illness. We wish them well in their venture.
